Logical verses Truth

Ren Posts

I was on the mountain this morning and HF (Heavenly Father) taught me some amazing things that I wrote in my journal.

“Ren, look at the facts of every situation. The facts will tell you the truth”

When a person goes to medical school the entrance exam is the MCAT. When a person goes to law school the entrance exam is the LSAT.

In this law exam one of the things you need to know is the list of 24 logical fallacies people use when they argue and try to prove a point that are NOT based off of facts.

The advertising industry uses these fallacies all the time to get us to psychologically buy their products that are not based on facts but seem logical so we go along with it.

Example: Tom Cruise says that coke is the best drink so it must be the best.

The devil uses these tactics to get good people to make bad decisions without even knowing it. We even go as far as defending, promoting or even criticizing others that don’t believe like us. But if we could see the reality of what we are doing we would be shocked and STOP.

These are good people that the devil uses to spread his deceit. People that normally speak with the spirit but with certain hot topics they’ve been so ingrained with this dogma that they will fight to the death about something that is totally false.

I truly believe God is separating the Wheat from the Tares in the last days like it says in the scriptures.

“Before that day comes, however, the Saints will be put to a test that will try the integrity of the best of them.

The pressure will become so great that the more righteous among them will cry unto the Lord day and night until deliverance comes.

Yes, we think we are secure here in the chambers of these everlasting hills, where we can close the doors of the canyons against mobs and persecutors, the wicked and the vile, who have always beset us with violence and robbery, but I want to say to you, my brethren, that the time is coming when we will be mixed up in these now peaceful valleys to that extent that it will be difficult to tell the face of a Saint from the face of an enemy against the people of God.

Then is the time to look out for the great sieve, for there will be a great shifting time, and many will fall. For I say unto you there is a test, a Test, a TEST coming.” (Heber C. Kimball, August 16, 1857).

“The time will come when no man nor woman will be able to endure on borrowed light. Each will have to be guided by the light within himself. If you do not have it, how can you stand? (Heber C. Kimball)

More Reading: Basics First

I was reading about the people of Ammon and how Zealous (excited) and converted they were verses the Nephites who were raised in the gospel and become soft.

In our day I believe members of the church in other humble countries outside the United States are like the Lamanites that were converted.

February 25, 1996 is the day that more members of the church lived outside the United States then in. Humble countries that give there life and soul to God whose service is not a mandate but a way of life.

So this got me thinking about the black and white stats with the church.

I feel like the numbers will tell the tale more than anything else with who is truly converted. This will also help forecast the direction the church is going in certain geographical areas.

I would like to see the percentages related to the total membership of the church at 15.6 million:

How many members are active?
How many have current temple recommends?
How many have 1 full year of food storage?
How many of the men hold the priesthood?
How many of the 18 year old boys serve missions?
How many of the older couples serve missions?

I would also like to see it from the different regions (United States, Europe, Australia, Russia, Africa, Asia etc..)

It would also be interesting to see the numbers when the church was first organized. There was a big sifting process with the early pioneers and the best of the best were left.

So where are we at as a church 186 years later?

Brigham Young Younger Pic

Brigham Young said:

“The worst fear I have about this people is that they will get rich in this country, forget God and His people, wax fat, and kick themselves out of the Church and go to hell.

This people will stand mobbing, robbing, poverty, and all manner of persecution, and be true

But my greater fear… is that they cannot stand wealth.”

I use to think the devil only influenced really bad people which isn’t always true. Sometimes his most powerful work is done with good people that mean well and hold high positions in the church.

This is why it’s so important to have the Gift of the Discerning of Spirits and the Gift of Discernment with you which are two separate gifts of the spirit to determine if what someone is saying is true or not and whether their being influenced by the wrong spirit.

Elder George Q Cannon

Elder George Q. Cannon said:

“One of the gifts of the Gospel which the Lord has promised to those who enter into covenant with Him is the gift of discerning of spirits—a gift which is not much thought of by many and probably seldom prayed for; yet it is a gift that is of exceeding value and one that should be enjoyed by every Latter-day Saint. . . .

No Latter-day Saint should be without this gift, because there is such a variety of spirits in the world which seek to deceive and lead astray.

In a revelation to the Church upon the spirits which have gone abroad in the earth the Lord says:

“Behold, verily I say unto you, that there are many spirits which are false spirits, which have gone forth in the earth, deceiving the world” (D&C 50:2).” (George Q. Cannon, Gospel Truth: Discourses and Writings of President George Q. Cannon, selected, arranged, and edited by Jerreld L. Newquist 1987, 156-58) “

Don’t just accept it because they’re an authority figure but get your own confirmation too.

Now there is a fine line between going against a leader of the church and simply disagreeing with an opinion they had.

Everyone is given a calling for multiple reasons and one big reason could be for them. So tread lightly and be careful to vocalize your thoughts or influence other people unless the spirit dictates.

It’s the same difference between a sin verses a mistake. A mistake is missing #3 on a math test and not a sin. You can disagree all day long with a leader as long as you still sustain and support them when the final word is said.

This actually helps a leader more for you to speak out and gives them a different perspective as long as you do it by the spirit in a respectful way.

I’m not talking about flinging mud but a much high level of communication where the spirit is present.

A while ago my friend I’ll call him Mike was called as a Bishop. He then had a few weeks to choose his counselors. The spirit told him who one of his counselors should be I’ll call him Jon.

Mike thought “No way!” Jon has such strong opinions. I could never work with him but he followed the spirit and called him anyway.

Jon did turn out to have strong opinions that actually helped Mike see a different perspective but when Mike made the final decision. Jon supported the action fully without resistance which is how it should be.

I read a book many year ago Titled: Good to Great which was about a huge study that was done with how these average companies rose up to become great companies.

So how did they do it? Healthy Confrontation.

They didn’t just roll over every time a superior had an idea. They pushed each other over and over until something great emerged and didn’t settle.

What was left at the end wasn’t either plan A or B but plan C that ultimately took them to the next level.

It wasn’t the standard 1+1=2 but  1+1=10

But it needs to be done in the right way. The devil has it all twisted up thinking that if we disagree we are going against our leaders and those that preside over us in the church.

It’s the exact opposite. We are actually helping move the work forward more by bringing a different perspective. That’s why we were called as counselors to help council each other.

“I am more afraid that this people have so much confidence in their leaders that they will not inquire for themselves of God whether they are led by him.

I am fearful they settle down in a state of blind self-security, trusting their eternal destiny in the hands of their leaders with a reckless confidence that in itself would thwart the purposes of God in their salvation, and weaken the influence they could give to their leaders, did they know for themselves, by the revelations of Jesus, that they are led in the right way.

Let every man and woman know themselves, whether their leaders are walking in the path the Lord dictate, or not. This has been my exhortation continually (James E. Faust – Continuous Revelation, Oct 1989, Uchtdorf – What is Truth, Jan 2013)

President J. Reuben Clark stated, “We can tell when the speakers are moved upon by the Holy Ghost only when we, ourselves are moved upon by the Holy Ghost.” (James E. Faust – Continuous Revelation – Oct 1989)

A while back a good friend of mine wanted a career change. He had two small children and one on the way and a very supportive wife. His method for changing careers wasn’t the most conventional and got a lot of comments from people.

Why would you do that?
Why wouldn’t you do this?
Gosh why would you leave your job?
Why are you moving when your wife is pregnant?
Did you think about this?

All well meaning people that don’t have a clue with what the spirit told him to do because it didn’t fit the standard mold.

We are taught to liken the scriptures unto us but we really don’t mean it.

Since when is God Conventional?

Noah and the ark

I think of:

Noah building the ark
Moses parting the red sea
The bro of Jared
Lehi leaving Jerusalem
How the savior was born
When the church was first organized
The pioneers crossing the plains

God is anything but conventional and one size doesn’t fit all.

So I’m real careful with who I give advice to because I might be telling them to discount the direction they were given by God and to not follow the spirit.

With experiences in my own life. Either help me or step aside but stop biting my heals.

Hammer and Screw

Have you ever tried to use a hammer to pound a screw into wood? It doesn’t work and the wood ends breaking. The same thing with life. Some people think that a hammer should be used for every problem which is not true.

God has millions of different tools that he uses to fulfill his purpose and we as humans try to limit him and put him in a box.

I watched a movie a few years ago on Netflix called: Faith like Potatoes. It was about a man who found God and with his faith miraculously healed an African girl who was pronounced dead.

Did this actually happen? YES

Does it matter how he did it or what religion he was? NO Who am I to say what steps God has put in a person’s path.

God is so much BIGGER!

All the Best to you and your family!
