Simplify like your on Vacation

For the past 15 years we have gone to Snowbird Utah on vacation in the summer. We stay in a small condo for 1 week. At the end of the week Hiedi and I have the same discussion.

Wouldn’t it be nice if our regular life was as simple as it is here?

So I thought. Why isn’t it?

I think 1 big reason is because of all our STUFF! Think about it.

  • Why do so many people like to go camping?
  • Why are motor homes so popular?
  • Why do we stay in small hotel rooms?

It’s so much smaller than the average home. So why is this how we vacation?

Here’s my point…

What if home could be like we were on vacation all the time?

Each day would be like Friday!

We use to live in what we thought was our Dream home a while back. We designed and built it perfectly or so we thought. It had 7 bedrooms, 3 baths, 2 kitchens, 3 car garage, 2 acres of land and all top-notch finishes (stainless steel appliances, surround sound etc…).

We thought we had arrived but didn’t realize how much time it took to maintain it all. Instead of spending time with our children doing fun things. We cleaned & re-decorated our home and washed finger prints off our stainless steel fridge.

From May 2012 to August of 2013 we lived in a 2 bedroom, 1 bath home and couldn’t have been happier! What use to take us sometimes days to maintain took less than 1/2 hour a day. We had much more time to spend with each other doing things we love rather than maintaining our home.

Now I’m sure there’s someone out there thinking “Ya right, whatever!” but it was true. It honestly felt like we were on vacation at a nice hotel.

Now I realize it’s not realistic to live this way forever but at the time it was so LIBERATING!

Since I posted this back in October of 2012 there has been some misunderstanding. I’m not saying to NOT work hard and just be on vacation all the time.

I believe HARD WORK is so important in life especially for something you believe in.

My point is that when I have LESS STUFF to manage I have more time to spend with my family.

All the Best!
